Travelling to Zeeland? Expect extra traffic

What is going to happen?

Are you planning to visit Zeeland? Keep this in mind and prepare your journey well. That way, you will arrive at your destination without any surprises. Roadworks will take place on several roads:

• 24 to 28 August 2026: The N57 between Serooskerke (SD) and Burgh-Haamstede will be closed. You will mainly notice this if your holiday address is on Schouwen-Duiveland.
• 1 September to 12 October 2026: De Zeelandbrug (“Zeeland bridge”, N256) will be closed to cars, motorcycles and freight traffic. This means you may need to take a different route, and other roads, such as the Oosterscheldekering (N57), may become busier. Cyclists and moped riders can use the cycle path on de Zeelandbrug.

The Kustmarathon is also coming up. During the weekend of 2 to 4 October 2026, we expect extra traffic on the Oosterscheldekering (N57), in and around Burgh-Haamstede, and on Walcheren, especially around Zoutelande.

Set off well prepared

Follow these tips for visiting Zeeland with as little delay as possible:

• Plan your route in advance using a navigation app. This way, you will know in time whether there is a diversion and can choose a different route if needed.
• Avoid peak hours where possible. Travelling outside the busiest times helps you avoid extra delays. The busiest times of the day are from 7 to 9 in the morning and from 4 to 6 in the afternoon.
• Allow for extra travel time. Leave on time so you can arrive at your destination without stress.
